Raising Awareness

All bleeding disorders are either rare conditions or ultra rare conditions.  That means that many people don’t know anyone with a bleeding disorders and know very little about them.

One of the best ways of raising awareness is for people who are affected to organise activities locally.  Schools and employers can be very willing to get involved in awareness raising and sometimes if can be combined with raising money.  So if you’d like to organise an event in your area please get in touch and we’d be delighted to get involved in organising and come along on the day.

One of the ways we raise awareness of bleeding disorders is by supporting some of the relevant awareness raising days.

Rare Diseases Day – The Last Day in February

On Rare Diseases Day we work with other Scottish Charities to highlight the fact that 1 in 17 people will experience a rare disease during their life.  By coming together we try and give all rare conditions a higher profile in Scotland.  We were one of the highlighted conditions at the 2014 event at the Scottish Parliament.

World Haemophilia Day – 17 April

A great opportunity to raise awareness every year comes on World Haemophilia Day.   On 17 April every year patient organisations like ours all over the world mark World Haemophilia Day (WHD).  As well as highlighting the fact that 75% of people in the world with a bleeding disorder aren’t diagnoised or don’t get adequate treatment WHD gives us an opportunity to raise awareness of bleeding disorders in Scotland.

We also play our part in several other awareness raising days which affect people with bleeding disorders.

World Hepatitis Day – 28 July

We work with the other organisations representing people with Hepatitis in Scotland, particularly Hepatitis C, to try and make the most of World Hepatitis Day.  You can find out more about previous World Hepatitis Day activities here.
