Haemophilia Scotland has joined forces with The Haemophilia Society and Haemophilia Northern Ireland to write to The Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP to call for new money to improve the four national infected blood support schemes pending the conclusion of the Infected Blood Inquiry.
The key points of the letter were,
- Reminding the Government of the words of Sir Brian Langstaff, Chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry, who has called for ‘decisive action’ and highlighted that too many are in ‘grinding hardship.’
- That there is significant variation in the level of support across the four national infected blood support schemes and that progress towards greater parity of support requires new money from HM Treasury.
- That the Infected Blood Inquiry will be hearing evidence on the support schemes from the 22nd of February and HM Treasury has the chance to seize the opportunity to respond to the words of Sir Brian before then.
Haemophilia Scotland has also sent a copy of the letter to the Scottish Government.
