At the start of June, Haemophilia Scotland, the Scottish Infected Blood Forum, and Haemophilia Northern Ireland, wrote a joint letter to The Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt MP, Paymaster General and the Minister responsible for the Infected Blood Inquiry at the Cabinet Office.
We were concerned that in her letter to the campaigners who had met with her predecessor she had only mentioned liaising with the Department of Health and Social Security for England. We wanted assurances that in trying to achieve parity of financial support those outside England were getting equal consideration. We also highlighted the need to involve the Treasury in the discussions as, in our view, new money will be required to achieve parity.
We have now received a response in which the Minister assures us that she is indeed working with the devolved Governments and the Treasury on the actions agreed in January. She also reiterates the UK Government’s position that they will continue to support the Infected Blood Inquiry and act quickly once it produces recommendations.
