Last weekend our fantastic Parent Mentors gathered at The Place to look back on the pilot project and reflect on what we can do next.
It was great to hear about how much all of the mentors had got out of being part of the pilot. Everyone said that they were sure that they had got just as much out of it as the family they had mentored. The project will now change to talk more about sharing experiences and having someone to talk to who understands. It’s clear that once people had met each other a few times the best way of providing support was over the phone and internet. It really makes it much easier to find time to talk when you have a young family. There will be new posters going out to the Scottish Haemophilia Centres soon to reflect this change.
We also took the opportunity to say goodbye to Jen Breen who ran the pilot project for us. We are extremely grateful of all her hard work. Hopefully we can all do her proud as the project continues to grow and develop in the future. We wish her the very best of luck with all her studying and projects.
It is a real pleasure to be able to report that all of the mentors have agreed to continue which means we can still take on new families. So if you’d like to have someone whose faced some of the questions you are facing about raising a child with a bleeding disorder then please get in touch.
