I have two sons with severe Haemophilia B. I remember how daunting it was when my oldest son was born. I was reassured in the early days by speaking to other parents and seeing their happy, healthy boys. This is something which I would like to be able to do for other people in the same situation. I have first hand experience of the practicalities of raising children with a bleeding disorder but I also have first hand experience of the emotional side of raising children with a bleeding disorder too.
I am Secretary of The Haemophilia Society Tayside Group. Through this role, I have organised social events for families. I have met with local families with newly diagnosed children. I have been able to answer their questions and share experiences.
I think the parent mentoring benefits parents and ultimately their children and I enjoy supporting other families at a time when they really need it. I would like to help people in the way that local families helped me and I also want to continue to learn from other families by sharing our experiences.
