Health Costs

Most NHS treatment is free, although there can be charges for some things.  Some people are entitled to help with these charges.  There is a quick check on the UK Government website (it still works for those in Scotland) and more detailed information called Help with Health Costs on the Scottish Government website.

Welfare and Benefits

Concessions on Buses

You may be entitled to a National Entitlement Card (NEC) which offers you free travel on buses. To find out more, please visit Transport Scotland.

Concession on Leisure Centres

Edinburgh Leisure offer a range of concessionary options for older adults aged 65 and over, young adults under 18, full-time students and those in receipt of disability benefits or on income support. Find out more.

Haemophilia Scotland

Joining Haemophilia Scotland is free and entitles you to attend a wide range of events throughout the year.  Haemophilia Scotland events are free to members.

Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme

Many of our community were infected in the 1970s and 1980s with hepatitis C and/or HIV through treatment with contaminated blood products. The Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme (SIBSS) provides support to people who were infected, as well as members of their immediate family.
