Today is World Haemophilia Day!

This year’s theme is Outreach and Identification.

Haemophilia Scotland has considerable involvement with outreach and identification abroad and at home.

In 2016, we were involved with an outreach programme in Malawi. Susan Warren, Lawrence Lincoln and Joan Rae visited hospitals in Lilongwe and surrounding areas and educated people on identifying and diagnosing bleeding disorders.

Also, Haemophilia Scotland is twinned with the Kenya Haemophilia Association (KHA) through the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH). Part of the objectives of the twinning is to share knowledge and best practice to help better support our members and to reach out to new members. Following our AGM in 2018, we had a training day with the KHA and we have received subsequent visits from staff. Recently, our organisations received the “Twinning of the Year 2018” award from the WFH.

Closer to home, we have been working on some new resources to help identify and diagnose bleeding disorders, including a Scottish adaptation of a Swedish resource, Where’s Mary? We’ve been working closely with clinicians, consultants and members on this and will let you know once it’s completed.

To mark World Haemophilia Day 2019, Haemophilia Scotland is hosting an evening reception at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh between 6:00pm-9:00pm.
Please join us if you’re able to. Guest speakers include:
