On Wednesday 28th February Haemophilia Scotland will join many charities and campaign groups at a parliamentary lobby at Westminster Hall organised by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood. The purpose of this mass lobby is to demand that the government acts now on compensation for people infected and affected by the contaminated blood scandal.
We are asking our members to help raise awareness of this event by contacting their local MPs and encouraging them to attend the lobby and demonstrate their support. With enough support, we hope that questions related to the contaminated blood scandal are raised at Prime Minister’s Questions which will take place on the same day.
You can help support this event by doing the following:
- Find your MP by entering your post code at the following link
- Download this draft letter that provides details of the lobby and asks them to attend and show their support on the day.
- Fill in your own personal details and either send this completed letter to your MP by post or attach a signed copy and send it by email to their email address which will be available from the link above.
With the final report from the Public Inquiry due out on Monday 20th May, it is essential that this lobby is well supported by MPs to demand that the government stops any further delays on compensation. In December 2023 MPs from all parties showed this by voting to approve an amendment to the Victims and Prisoners Bill to set up a compensation scheme within three months of the Bill being passed into law.
The Bill is currently being debated in the House of Lords and the section on compensation for contaminated blood is now expected to be discussed on Monday 26th February when the debate on the Bill resumes.
