Last week, Haemophilia Scotland submitted a written response to Sir Robert Francis regarding the proposed Infected Blood Compensation Scheme. Our submission outlines the organisation’s position, based on feedback from our members, and highlights serious concerns about 12 key areas of the proposed scheme.
Our main points included:
Ongoing Support: We emphasised how essential the Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme (SIBSS) is to beneficiaries and the significant impact and damage that the information provided has caused to the community.
Severity Bands: We expressed our concerns about the proposed severity bands, noting that they only reflect the deterioration of the infection itself and fail to account for the psychological and social harms caused by the treatment and its side effects.
Financial Loss and Care Costs: We highlighted various issues surrounding the calculations for financial loss and care costs within the proposed scheme.
