Costs incurred visiting a child in hospital 

If your child has to spend time in hospital as an inpatient you can apply for financial assistance to visit the child for any of the parent, guardian or siblings who are under 18.  

This can cover travel and food costs. You can ask on ward for a form or download one here

Travel costs to and from hospital

This help is only available through the Family Fund if your child is an inpatient. If you are on certain benefits and you are struggling with the cost of travelling to and from yours or your child’s hospital appointments please see our health costs information. (hyperlink)

Family Fund, Take a Break

Take a Break grants enable families caring for a disabled or seriously ill child or young person to have the opportunity to choose how they would like to take a break, with a view to improving the quality of life, health and wellbeing of the whole family.

Merlin’s Magic Wand is a worldwide charity for children. They arrange magical days out at Merlin Entertainments attractions, such as LEGOLAND Resorts®, SEA LIFE Centres and Madame Tussauds.

Turn2Us is a search engine which locates available grants that you may be eligible for. Many charities offer non-repayable grants to help individuals on low incomes.
To be eligible you have to meet their particular rules.
These may be based on your location,  age, gender, current or past jobs or health condition.
