Mark’s 2026 Marathon Challenge

This year, one of our amazing supporters, Mark, will be taking on not one but two marathons just five weeks apart: the Manchester Marathon on 19 April and the Edinburgh Marathon on 24 May, to raise vital funds for Haemophilia Scotland. We are very grateful for his commitment (and bravery!), and for the powerful reason behind it.

Mark and his partner Vicky’s little boy, Theo, was diagnosed with Haemophilia B at birth. Haemophilia B is a rare genetic bleeding disorder caused by a lack of clotting factor IX, meaning the blood doesn’t clot as it should. The condition runs in Vicky’s family, and while it is something Theo will live with throughout his life, he faces it with remarkable courage and joy.

At just 13 months old, Theo underwent surgery to have a port fitted so he could receive treatment more safely. He now requires twice‑weekly infusions, which Mark and Vicky have learned to administer at home. There is currently no cure, but treatments continue to advance — and the support of families like theirs helps drive that progress forward.

At Haemophilia Scotland, we work to ensure that no one living with a bleeding disorder feels alone. We provide support, raise awareness, campaign for better care, and advocate for improved treatment options across the country. Stories like Theo’s remind us why this work matters so much.

Theo is a bright, happy, and incredibly brave little boy. His determination inspires everyone around him, and it’s his strength — and his future — that Mark will be honouring with every mile he runs.

If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, your support will help us continue providing essential services for families affected by bleeding disorders and contribute to a future where treatment keeps improving for children like Theo.
