On World Haemophilia Day, Sunday 17th April, we met at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) for the launch of our Women’s Group art exhibition.
At the heart of the exhibition is the International Women’s Quilt that was exhibited firstly at the 2018 WFH Congress in Glasgow. The artwork accompanying it is from women across Scotland who created art throughout the course of lockdown that represents their experience of being a woman in Scotland affected by a bleeding disorder.
At the event, we heard about the origins of the project from Alex Whitteker, our Operations Manager. We then heard from one of our members, Sheilane, who talked about her experience of bleeding disorders. Following her talk, we heard from Dr Gráinne O’Brien, who talked about the mental health aspect of being a woman affected by a bleeding disorder.
This was our first in-person event since pre-pandemic, so it was fantastic to reconnect with one another again. We are working on an events calendar for the coming year and will be able to share more details in due course.
In the meantime, the exhibition runs until June so make sure you get out and visit – and tell your family and friends about it!

PLEASE DONATE
As part of this year’s World Haemophilia Day events, we are running a campaign to raise funds to help us continue the work we do to support, inform and advocate for Scotland’s bleeding disorders community.
In light of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and in solidarity with our international bleeding disorders community, we will donate 50% of the proceeds of this campaign to the EHCs Emergency Displacement Fund. The EHC’s Emergency Displacement Fund (EDF) will support NMOs, charities and other organisations who are dealing with the direct displacement of people with a bleeding disorder and their families in situations of armed conflict.
