New Financial Wellbeing Officer Appointed

Maxie Cobern-Burke, Financial Wellbeing Officer

We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of the Haemophilia Scotland team, Maxie Cobern-Burke. Maxie joins us as our new Financial Wellbeing Officer. This role has been created to provide dedicated support to our community, ensuring that everyone living with or affected by a bleeding disorder receives the financial assistance and benefits they are entitled to.

Living with a bleeding disorder can present unique challenges, and navigating the complex world of benefits and financial support should not add to these difficulties.

What Does the Financial Wellbeing Officer Do?

Our Financial Wellbeing Officer, Maxie, will be at the forefront of our efforts to improve financial security for our community. Some of her responsibilities include:

Benefits:

Benefit check: Are you getting all of the benefits you should be? Maxie can provide a benefit check to ensure you are not missing out. 

Applying for Benefits: Benefit applications can be a minefield, Maxie can help you every step of the way, how to apply and completing application forms.

Unsuccessful application: Maxie can assist with asking for the decision to be looked at again and taking the decision to an appeal. She can be your voice when speaking to Social Security Scotland or the Department for Works and Pension.

Income maximisation:

Budgeting: Struggling to make ends meet? Maxie can assist with budgeting and can sign post for any debt advice required. 

About Maxie

Maxie has worked in benefits and welfare rights for around twenty years, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in this sector.

Starting her benefits career with Tax Credits when they were launched in 2003, she then started working in Welfare Rights where she gained experience in supporting her service users with all types of benefit queries, assisting them with applications through to representing them at appeals. Maxie has experience working in many different projects including reducing homelessness, heat or eat, and resettlement of Syrian refugees. The past two years have been spent in the third sector as an Advocacy Officer covering the East of Scotland, working with patients with chronic and inherited health issues.

Maxie likes to use a holistic approach when assisting people with queries. She will ensure that where she cannot offer assistance she will signpost to someone who can.

Maxie enjoys outdoor pursuits with her family and dog, often exploring Scotland’s beautiful countryside with the Cairngorms on her doorstep.
